Levels of Voice Lessons
No matter the level at which you currently are - whether a complete beginner or an advanced student who has been taking voice lessons for a decade - the Altadena Academy of Music, serving Pasadena, is here to help you get the most out of voice lessons. Since we specialize in private voice lessons, which we have been delivering since 2003, we ensure that your experience with voice lessons is tailored to your current level, the pace at which you are comfortable to work at, as well as your goals and ambitions within music.
Beginner
Beginner voice lessons help new students establish proper breath control as well as posture for singing. Our professional voice coaches teach beginner voice students basic vocal warm-up exercises and help beginners develop an understanding of vocal tones and proper musical notation. Unless requested by the student, all vocal lessons include fundamental music theory.
Intermediate
Our intermediate voice lessons help more seasoned voice students strengthen their vocal techniques and expand their vocal range. At this level, voice coaches focus on more advanced techniques that help students improve their control, stamina, and flexibility while singing their favorite musical pieces. Basics of songwriting are introduced for students interested in pursuing this avenue.
Advanced
Our advanced voice lessons are for students who have mastery of intermediate techniques but are looking to further hone their vocal skills. Such lessons help students solidify vocal techniques and control their voice across the entire vocal range as well as further develop power and stamina. Our advanced students can begin composing their own pieces, developing stage presence techniques, and learning how to engage an audience.

Our Policies
We provide students with month-to-month lessons with no long-term commitments. Switching gears away from music? Simply give us a 30-day heads up and you are good to go! Need to change your lesson time? Let us know and we'll be glad to look at other options. And of course - need to miss a lesson? Let us know in advance and you can always receive a private make up credit, rather than lose your lesson or do a group make up.
Our Accolades
We genuinely hate to brag - but we have been chosen as the Best Music School by Expertise Magazine for several years in a row. We are also a Pasadena Weekly Reader Recommended Music School (every year since 2015). Lastly, we are a Steinway & Sons Teaching and Educational Partner, an extremely rare designation for private music schools, as well as members of the Music Teachers' Association of California. The list of the Academy's accolades, including students' competition wins, goes on, and we really hope it speaks for itself!

Frequently Asked Questions About Voice Lessons
At the Altadena Academy of Music, professional voice coaches strive to give all students the opportunity to express themselves through music. While some individuals have an inclination for singing, anyone, of any age, can learn to properly sing through the various techniques and exercises taught by their teachers. Whether it’s your breathiness or pitch that needs correction, you can and will become a better singer with consistent practice and expert instruction. So, if you are looking for voice lessons in Altadena or Pasadena, look no further!
At the Altadena Academy of Music, we believe in fighting fears head on! That is why our students are encouraged to perform their musical pieces at our semi-annual recitals, featuring both kids and adults. Stage fright can easily be overcome by performing more often, and that is one of the privileges that students at our Academy have. Recitals are completely optional, but all students have a blast, so we recommend you participate!
As the old saying goes (pun intended), you are never too old to pursue a new hobby. Adults make up about one-third of the Academy's students, and adult voice lessons specifically are a very popular choice. Adults choosing to pick up music usually do so to engage in a new hobby, meet friends , and hone their musical abilities.
Additionally, students looking into improving their memory, as well as controlling certain conditions, such as Parkinson's tremors, are actually encouraged to begin piano lessons, as playing music is scientifically proven to stimulate the brain and allow you to strengthen and improve your hand coordination.
All of our voice lessons here at the Altadena Academy of Music include sight reading and music theory, unless requested to be excluded from your learning plan.
Generally, for students wanting to learn in-depth music theory alongside with voice, we recommend enrolling in a combination piano/voice class, as that would allow you to fully immerse yourself in the best of both worlds - the vocal technique and coaching that comes from voice lessons, and the theory background that you will develop from the piano portion of your lessons.Â
Absolutely not! Our voice lessons are designed to be taken by those that have no prior experience in music whatsoever. Whether you are completely new to the musical world or an advanced singer, we have coaches that will help you improve and further develop your vocal skills.
